GLASS has always had a decisive influence on our everyday life and quality of life. Its development from the former luxury glass of antiquity to today's indispensable material for science, medicine and industry is vividly presented in two of the glass museum's urban houses.
The 35 glass play stations integrated into the glass ABC allow young and old to grasp the material glass in a playful way.
Glass ball blowing and the glass museum shop are among the most popular stations. The highlight
is the nationally known Christmas atmosphere everywhere in the GLASMUSEUM WERTHEIM, every year from 1st Advent to 6th January "Historical and modern Christmas tree decorations made of glass" on real spruces and pines.
The surprise was great when on October 20 in the district office Tauberbischofsheim District Administrator Christoph Schauder awarded the GLASMUSEUM WERTHEIM e. V. with the first prize of the district honorary award. Heike Baumann accepted the glass sculpture with a certificate of honor and the prize money of € 2,000.
"The County Honor Award is an award for active and voluntary work in associations and organizations with cultural, sporting, social, ecclesiastical or other charitable objectives. For the award in 2021, it was agreed that the Landkreisehrenpreis should be awarded to private museums in the Main-Tauber-Kreis." (Excerpt from the letter of the Tauberbischofsheim District Office dated 10.11.2020). A total of 15 museums have applied. The other award winners are: Tauberfränkisches Landschaftsmuseum in Tauberbischofsheim (2nd place), Fingerhutmuseum in Creglingen (3rd place), Taubertäler Dorfmuseum in Weikersheim (4th place) and the Pfeiferstube in Niklashausen (5th place).
Why go to an exhibition about glass that extends over several floors, since it is a material that is not all that spectacular, because it is commonplace and found everywhere? Why? Because it is so incredibly versatile and its history is more than exciting and fascinating! A fact that the Wertheim Glass Museum skilfully illustrates. With several interactive stations, the museum offers a lot of fun for children, but also for adults. I was once there as a little boy with my grandmother and now - years later - again as a married man with my wife. Very likely again one day with our children. Here's to seeing you again soon! ACTION AVANTGARDEMuseum is rather small, yet one of the better museum facilities on glass that I know. Of course, there is also the possibility to watch a glassblower from 2 pm. It was unexpectedly interesting, as there was also a goldsmith who recreated archeological finds.
